The company "Sugherificio Luigi Lacu" (Luigi Lacu's cork factory) was founded in 1975. Its founder, Luigi Lacu took advantage of the company's geographical position, in the northern part of Sardinia, to transform the abundant cork trees, which come from the area of Gallura, into high end quality bottle corks. In 1985 Giovanna and Michele Lacu joined the company and began diversifying production. Above all they wanted to find a way to take advantage of the leftover material from cork production. With this in mind they decided to concentrate their energy on new products, hoping to stimulate more interest in a world where cork oak is only known for its bottle corks. Although cork oak is an unlimited resource, it still takes a deep understanding of the material and product in order to create a wider variety of new uses. All new products thus far produced are a result of years of research. This knowledge has allowed the company enviable recognition in different industries, such as footwear, manufacturing and biologically friendly building materials. Today, 20 years later, the “Michele Lacu snc” has become a worldwide presence with its mark firmly planted in today's major international markets.
